OSC's United Way Volleyball Tournament Results

The economy may be weak, but people's hearts are strong, as evidenced by a record-setting fundraising event at the Otis Service Center in Bloomfield, CT. On Friday, June 10, 2011, over 406 participants came together for the 23rd annual Otis/United Way Volleyball Tournament on the OSC lawn. The event raised a record $13,163 for the United Way Community Campaign.

Forty-three teams came from as near as OSC and as far as Sikorsky in Stratford. Most of the UTC companies were represented in the tournament: Hamilton Sundstrand of Windsor Locks, Otis of Farmington and Bloomfield, Pratt & Whitney of East Hartford and Middletown, Sikorsky of Stratford, UTC Fire & Security of Farmington, and UTC Power of South Windsor. 2011 also saw teams come from outside the UTC umbrella, including Bolton High School, Expeditors JFK, New Hartford Parks & Recreation, and Pfizer.

While the tournament netted the same number of teams as 2010, the number of sponsors increased 35%, from 17 to 23, and those companies generously gave $5,525?a 75% increase over the 2010 sponsor contributions. All in all, it?s safe to call the tournament a resounding success!

Congratulations to the champions and runners up in the four skill divisions.
